[Encoding Mode] [Encoding Time] [Bitstream Profile] [Rate Control Algorithm]

[Lag in Frames] [Threads Count] [Error Resilient]

The Encoding Mode section allows you to select the number of passes that the compression will take and configure these passes. It can be selected from the list:

  • Single Pass is used to convert the video file with the parameters set below. You can use this option to convert the file with relatively fast speed.

The Encoding Time section comprises a list of quality levels for the output file:

  • Good Quality is used to achieve a good quality in the output file.
  • Best Quality is used to achieve the best quality in the output file.
  • Real Time is used to achieve the best possible quality in the output file (e.g. without dropping frames from the input video).

Bitstream Profile typically maps to a set of features that are turned on or off. If the default value is selected, all the features from the set are set to zero.

Rate Control Algorithm indicates whether the data is to be streamed over a bandwidth constrained link, indicating that constant bitrate (CBR) mode should be used, or whether it will be played back on a high bandwidth link, as from a local disk, where higher variations in bitrate are acceptable (VBR).

If a value for the Lag in Frames parameter is set, it allows the encoder to consume a number of input frames before producing output frames. It means that the encoder bases decisions for the current frame on future frames. This increases the latency of the encoding pipeline, so it is not appropriate in all situations (e.g. realtime encoding).

Select a Threads Count for multi-threaded implementations. No more than the specified number of threads will be used. The codec may use fewer threads than allowed. The value 0 is equivalent to the value 1.

Enable the Error Resilient checkbox to indicate to the encoder that it should take measures appropriate for streaming over lossy or noisy links, if possible.

If you are not sure which settings to use you can press the Restore Defaults button to discard the changes and restore default settings.

When ready press the OK button to accept the changes you have made.
